North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve is one of the largest protected natural areas in Latvia. It is located in the North Vidzeme Region, where fields are interspersed with vast forests. It covers almost 6% of the territory of Latvia.


In the north-west of Latvia, at the very northern tip of Kurzeme Region, is the smallest of Latvia's four National Parks – Slītere National Park. It was created from one of the first protected natural areas in Latvia – from Šlīteres nature monument, founded in 1923. This national park is also called – an open–air museum of geological history of the Baltic Sea.


Gauja National Park, the largest and oldest national park in Latvia. It was established in 1973, in order to preserve the unique ancient valley of the river Gauja, with its tributaries, Devonian sandstone outcrops, rich flora and fauna, as well as important cultural and historical monuments. The winding River Gauja flows almost 94 kilometres through the national park (its total length is 460 km).


Ķemeri National Park, founded in 1997, is a real wetland paradise. Get to know it better! Only half an hour's drive from Riga, the capital of Latvia, you can see all types of wetlands that can be found in Latvia in one place. There are raised bogs dotted with countless small lakes, mysterious wet deciduous forests, wide floodplain meadows with semi–feral horses and cows, lagoon lakes rich in waterbirds, meandering rivers and the sea coast.
